The
local tour operator HimaDie Travels, responsible tourism extends beyond showcasing Sri Lanka’s scenic landscapes to actively supporting remote communities across the island. Demonstrating this commitment, the agency recently conducted an outreach visit to a small rural school Badulla/Thalawegama Primary School in Mahiyangana, providing much needed supplies and financial aid to students, teachers, and surrounding families facing daily resource shortages.
Like many educational institutions in remote regions, the Mahiyangana school operates under severe facility and supply constraints. To help alleviate immediate operational pressures, the agency donated LKR 10,000 directly to the school administration. In addition to the monetary contribution, essential school item packs were distributed to 130 enrolled students to aid their ongoing studies, while 18 teachers received gifts of appreciation for their continued service under challenging conditions. Recognizing the needs of the broader community, the initiative also extended gift packs to more than 50 young children living in the neighboring village.
Speaking on the initiative, representatives from HimaDie Travels emphasized that driving positive, tangible outcomes for local residents remains central to their mission. The company noted that direct community engagement ensures tourism directly contributes to the social well being of the regions host to their travel itineraries, thanking past and current travelers whose bookings make such community outreach possible.
